Why is Homemaking Important?

Tomorrow I am giving the Young Women lesson on Homemaking.  Why is it important?

Please give me your take.  We have a sister who struggles with the concept.  What would you say?  My lesson is at 1:00 p.m. so I have a little time for advice.

I will be praying and studying tonight.

My lesson for the Primary is how the Priesthood Blesses my Home. Oh wait... I don't have the Priesthood in my home. Is it appropriate to tell Primary kids I knowit is important, because when you don't have it, you can really tell?

As for your lesson... Homemaking is important, because your home sets the tone for your whole life. If you feel the spirit in your home, it will be easier to hold onto the spirit in the outside world. Your mind will be free of clutter and distractions, making it easier to learn and study the gospel and the people in your family will feel loved and secure.

A quote from L. Tom Perry (I think)

A mother has far greater influence on her children than anyone else, and she must realize that every word she speaks, every act, every response, her attitude, even her appearance and manner of dress affect the lives of her children and the whole family. It is while the child is in the home that he gains from his mother the attitudes, hopes, and beliefs that will determine the kind of life he will live, and the contribution he will make to society.

I love you, Sister Bear. That is exactly right.

That was Candice by the way, just in case anyone thought that Drew was loving the wrong person on Valentine's Day, even though he loves Sister Bear too.

Thank you for the comment on my page. It is all stuff I know of course, but I definitely need the reminder sometimes.

In the world today, I sometimes I feel looked down upon because I try to put my children and husband first. I work part time so I can be home when Bryce is off school most of the time even though he is a junior in High School. I don't have the all the worldly things I would like to have, but I do have the things I need. I deny myself some of the things I would like to do, because time spent with your family can not be made up. Being a mother is the most important job in the world and probably one of the hardest. I must say it is easier to go to work than stay home and clean up messes, answer the same question over and over again, discipline your children even though they are mad at you and don't get to do every they they think they should..Children are a gift from our Heavenly Father, they are on loan to us, it is our job as parents to teach them the things they need to know so that they stand a chance to make it back to him someday. Your home should be a haven from the world. Of course as parents we have never done this before, so we make many mistakes and luckily, hopefully, our children will weather well from them. Homemaking is important even if you never have a Husband or children. Your home should still be a place that is a safe haven. Since I am not in this situation I can not comment on this part. I am sure it is very hard for the single sisters & brothers in the church.
