Cleaning the Temple

We did not just clean any temple, we got to clean the Temple of Temples...the great Salt Lake City Temple. It is in our temple district.

I am in Young Women's and do not get to attend Relief Society, but one Sunday a few weeks ago, I felt impressed to go to Relief Society. Feeling incredibly guilty for abandoning my girls, I went. The Relief Society leaders happened to announce that they needed volunteers to clean the temple the day after the fourth of July...the fifth, from 12-4 p.m. I felt really strong that I should do it, and I thought that I could possibly get a babysitter, because Andrew usually works at that time.

As the Fifth approached, I found myself having a glorious time in Idaho, yet I felt so strong about the temple. Andrew had also signed up unbeknownst to me, so we left Idaho at 8:00 a.m. in order to make it to Salt Lake in time.

I was excited because of the strong impressions that I felt. In the end, Andrew did not go with me, because we were worried about Sarah being able to stand four hours at a daycare.

So, Andrew and Sarah went swimming and I went to the temple.

Andrew told me that the volunteers would get a temple tour, which I was super excited about since I have always wanted to see parts of the Temple with a capital 'T' that I had not seen before.

However, when we arrived, they told us that there would be no tour.

"Oh, well", I thought, "We will do something awesome, or I would not have felt so strong about coming...maybe we will clean an amazing part of the temple." They informed us kindly that we would be scrubbing the lockers.

"Well", I thought pushing away a little disappointment, "I am going to have an amazing experience cleaning the lockers. Maybe a little revelation, or a great conversation with one of the other workers.

Then, a wonderful thing happened. We were told that they needed help in a part of the temple that volunteers never get to go. In fact, when we arrived, they said this had only happened twice in eight years. I felt that Heavenly Father really loved me.

Without going into detail, we were escorted to the fourth floor where the Twelve and the First Presidency have their meetings. It was a sacred experience for me. I saw things that I had never seen or thought of before.

Anyway, I am grateful for impressions, for the Temple which I love, for the sweet and sacred times where Heavenly Father just lets you know that he loves and trusts you.
