The "Chaperon"

On Saturday night I made a last minute decision to go to the regional youth dance. Yes, this is the dance for 14-18 yr. olds, and yes, I am 34. I went on the premise that I was going as a 'chaperon' to help the other leaders: our Stake was in charge. If I am completely honest I would admit that I went because I love to dance. I love dances. My summer job while in college was in part to go to youth dances three times a week, and I loved it.

When I arrived at the dance, I could not help myself. I danced like a mad woman for the next 3 hrs. I did the Roger Rabbit, the Running Man, the Typewriter, Charlie's Angels, the Bowler, the Frugue, the Monkey, the Shopping Cart, the Kayak, the Model Walk, the Macarena, the Robot, the Electric Slide, the Boot Scoot Boogie, the Surf, the Cabbage Patch, the Moon Walk, the Thriller, the Molly Ringwald, the Cha Cha Slide, the Samba, the Sprinkler, the Sprocket, and many others that do not, and should not have names (I have a tendency with the youth to make up dances as I go.  The blessed youth always work with me on this).

Thank goodness for 1:00 p.m. church the next day.

If you ever need a 'chaperon' for your youth dance, you now know who to call.

Good for you! We went to a dance about a year ago as chaperones, and Stan wouldn't let me dance. He gave me "the look" and said, "We're chaperones." Kill joy. We did get a couple of slow ones in, but I'm hoping for gold at our Stake Sweetheart dance in February: it's for adults, so we definitely won't be chaperones.
