Mermaid Spirit

Halloween is not a joy without children. It can be fun, yes, but not a joy.

Sarah is finally at the age where she appreciates this strange candy-filled holiday, and we love her for it. Today would not have been as fun without our Mermaid (you cannot see it, but she has a fish tail).
She was originally going to be a Peacock. Not of her own choice. I had found a lovely peacock costume at the Pottery Barn Outlet in Memphis, and decided then that Sarah would be a peacock, and she had graciously resigned herself to it.

But, Heavenly Father loves Sarah the Mermaid (she has been in mermaid mode for several weeks now), for I misplaced her peacock costume on this day of our Halloween festivities. Really, it was gone.

So Dad went to Pottery Barn Kids this morning and got Sarah Mermaid a costume that went with her Mermaid spirit. Blessedly, it was $30 instead of the original $70.
It is also sized for 7-8 year olds. Our three year old is totally pinned into this outfit. I was glad, though, for she will hopefully be a mermaid every year until she is 18. That would be great, because my sewing skills are in their infancy.

This is Drew at the Fall Festival our Stake puts on every year. He said that he was Linus, and he is carrying the Great Pumpkin. At our final party (we attended three Halloween celebrations today), Drew was carrying a blue Linus Blanket.
This is us on our way to our last party of the night. The poor kids were so tired.
Our poor ward Trunk or Treat was moved inside because of rain. Then it was moved outside because of smoke...and the church fire alarms telling us to evacuate.
The poor Firefighters. Two other chapels in our area had been set fire and severely damaged this morning. It is painful when something sacred is desecrated. I hurt for the displaced members of our Stake. Arson was suspected.

This visit, though, was just too much smoke coming from the kitchen. Thankfully.

Drew will be guarding our Chapel tonight on shifts with other priesthood holders. He will keep our House safe just as he keeps our Home safe.

Blake had just told me this morning about the arsoned buildings in SLC. I'm glad your building wasn't affected ,but it's sad when things like that happen-

Happy Halloween, friend.
